The first meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Providence Point was held January 24, 1986.   The club was sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Issaquah and Issaquah Valley.  Over these 19 years the Providence Point Kiwanians have provided service and support to many individuals and organizations in Providence Point as well as the greater Issaquah area.

The motto of Kiwanis is “Serving the Children of the World.”  The Providence Point club has carried out this mission in many ways.  Presently they sponsor a K-Kids club at Discovery Elementary School in the Issaquah School District.   K-Kids is a Kiwanis supported service organization for elementary age children.  The club also has chartered and is an active supporter of Cub Scout Pack 225.  This Pack has won many honors for their work.  In addition to these groups Kiwanis members donate time working at Eastside Baby Corner and mentoring through the Issaquah Schools Foundation VOICE program.

Providence Point Kiwanis has had a close relationship with Providence Marianwood for many years.  The beginnings of the Kiwanis club and Marianwood were about at the same time.  One of the first projects for the club was to assist with setting up equipment and supporting the dedication and open house at Marianwood in March of 1986.  A Providence Point Kiwanis member has served on the Providence Marianwood Foundation board for several years.  In 2012 Providence Marianwood recognized the Kiwanis Club of Providence Point with its annual Spirit of Marianwood award.

Another longtime relationship has been with the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank.  For several years, members of the Kiwanis club have been delivering food from local grocery stores to the food bank.  This past year, club members delivered more than 82,000 pounds of food to be used by the less fortunate in Issaquah community.

The Providence Point community has been served by Kiwanians in many ways.  One of the major projects has been the operation of a medical loan closet.  The club has collected many types of medical equipment such as; wheelchairs, walkers, canes, toilet risers, etc.  This equipment is loaned out to Providence Point residents at no charge.  Club members also offer a handyman service to residents.  They assist with minor repairs around the homes of those who are not able to do the work themselves.

Providence Point Kiwanis Club has made monetary contributions to many worthwhile charities in the Greater Issaquah Area.  These funds come from several fund raising projects held during the year.  These include a pancake breakfast, a dinner, and raffles.  In addition, the club holds its Annual Fund Drive within the Providence Point Community.  For the past several years, the residents of Providence Point have annually contributed over $25,000 to this drive.  These funds go to the club’s major partners: Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank, Eastside Baby Corner, Providence Marianwood Foundation, and Issaquah Compassion House.  In addition, some of this money goes to the Kiwanis club service fund to be distributed to other groups; such as Eastside Friends of Seniors, Friends of Youth, Operation Nightwatch, Eastside Public Safety Support, Lifewire (a domestic violence program) and many other causes.

From its earliest beginnings, the Kiwanis Club of Providence Point has believed in being a contributing member of the community.  What makes the club somewhat unique is that the vast majority of the membership is senior citizens.  Many cannot physically participate in all the club projects, but they do what they can.  This past year, club members provided over 1300 hours of service to the larger community.
